Check the right licence

For gas work, use Technical Safety BC’s current contractor directory and check the scope relevant to the job. Confirm the business name on the quote matches the contractor taking responsibility. A website badge or a familiar equipment brand is not a substitute for verification.

Ask which authority handles the installation permit for your address and who will arrange the permit and inspection. Requirements can differ by jurisdiction and project.

Make the proposal specific

A useful contractor explains what they know, what they still need to assess and what the price covers. Ask for model numbers, the sizing basis, access and travel costs, warranty terms and the process for changes.

Use reviews as one input, and look for detail about projects comparable to yours. This website does not rank contractors or publish unverified ratings.

Confirm before committing

  • Business identity and relevant current licence
  • Written scope, price and exclusions
  • Who performs the work and obtains permits
  • Confirmed appointment and heating interruption
  • Payment terms, warranties and follow-up contact
